Rehabilitation Services

Our physical, occupational, and speech therapists help patients rebuild strength, develop functional mobility, and perform activities of daily living for a successful return home. These licensed professionals partner with Accelerated Care Plus, the nation’s leading provider of advanced rehab technology, to ensure we are following the most up-to-date, effective rehab technology and practices available.

Beachwood Post Acute therapists work with the rest of our caregiving team to help patients with a variety of concerns, including:

  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
  • Fall management
  • Pain management
  • Recovery from knee and hip replacement
  • Recovery from illness, injury, or accident
  • Rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis
  • Stroke recovery
  • Urinary incontinence

Physical Therapy

Our physical therapy team works to help residents reach their highest level of independence. Each patient is carefully evaluated before a physical therapist creates an individualized treatment program. Treatment takes place in a safe environment, with a focus on improving physical impairment and pain, and preventing future injuries.

Areas of treatment may include:

  • Increasing strength and mobility
  • Increasing motor control after stroke
  • Improving coordination, balance and the ability to walk following a fracture
  • Improving overall strength conditioning, range of motion and endurance
  • Managing pain
  • Learning proper body mechanics to prevent injury
  • Promoting safety awareness

 

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapists help residents master tasks essential for daily living such as bathing, dressing, eating, and using the bathroom. They also assist residents with impaired vision and/or hearing to function well in their environment.

Areas of treatment may include:

  • Functional independence: eating, bathing, toileting, homemaking, cooking, etc.
  • Maintenance of wellness: dressing and grooming
  • Prevention of further disability: home assessments and modifications, adaptive equipment
  • Increasing safety awareness

 

Speech Therapy

Speech therapists assess and help restore abilities in the areas of communication, swallowing, and cognition. Treatment programs are designed to help residents affected by stroke, brain injury, dementia, and other neurological disorders. Speech therapists also work with residents suffering from hearing impairment, respiratory illnesses, and complex medical conditions.

Areas of treatment may include:

  • Improving speech and voice clarity
  • Increasing comprehension and verbal expression
  • Improving chewing and swallowing ability
  • Maximizing cognitive language skills: memory, problem-solving, and abstract reasoning
  • Resident and family/caregiver education and training for managing ongoing difficulties with communication, cognition, and swallowing

 

Respiratory Therapy

Respiratory therapists evaluate and treat individuals who have trouble breathing or those with respiratory-associated illnesses such as asthma, pneumonia, emphysema, bronchitis, and sleep apnea.

Services include:

  • Oxygen
  • Nebulized Breathing Treatments
  • Ventilatory Assistance
  • Chest Physiotherapy
  • Breathing Exercises
  • Patient Education
  • Assistance with CPR
  • Airway Management

 

Special equipment and programs

Beachwood Post Acute patients have access to a broad range of advanced treatment tools and programs. These may include:

  • Patterned Electrical Neuromuscular Stimulation (PENS) –  a therapy that increases circulation to promote healing, reduce pain, and address muscle weakness.
  • Ultrasound – used to assist in tissue healing, tendonitis, muscle spasms, joint stiffness, arthritis, contractures, and wound healing.
  • Omnicycle/biofeedback
  • Electric stimulation
  • Diathermy
  • Ultrasound
  • Infrared/light therapy
  • Active assisted therapeutic exercise and biofeedback
